"Growth and Transformation"

Benjamin Terrell

For a while now I've been interested in doing away with recognizable things in my work. The point of painting, I think, is to allude to what is beyond words.

The really compelling things can't completely be named, and they are qualities that aren't limited and kept small by language or reason. When I stand in front

of a painting and I have to work a little to enter the artist's world

possibility more freely unfolds. With that expansion also comes the realization that things might be more complex, expansive and enlightening than I could have imagined.
